- Abstract
Background/Objectives: Ambiguous and unexpected actions can be performed in Internet of things(IoT) services because of a conflict between events. To improve the reliability of IoT services, the causes of conflict must be resolved at event transition and connection. Methods/Statistical analysis: Several services are realized by the interrelation of events by interconnecting things in the IoT environment. This paper presents a method to detect conflicts in events by using a model-based approach. The method consists of thing analysis, things state modeling, event conflict detection, and transition-rule adjustment. Findings: The key problem of the IoT environment is the provision of unreliable services. It is difficult to determine the exact reason for unreliable services. The type of thing, input, and output are identified at the thing analysis step. In things state modeling, the structure relationships between things are modeled using a class diagram concept. In addition, structure modeling is useful to derive state modeling of things. By the tracing transition of event, the unexpected conflict can be easily identified at the model level. The efficacy of the proposed method was verified via a case study of an IoT lecture room. In addition, four methods have been derived to resolve conflicts between events. Improvements/Applications: The proposed approach was applied to detect the conflict of IoT events. It can increase the stable provision of IoT services by easily detecting conflicts by using the diagram.
